Introducing our first editorial cartoonist
By Rudy M. Vorkapic
Editor of The Levee
The New Orleans Levee newspaper today proudly introduces David Spicuzza as our first contributing editorial cartoonist.
Spicuzza is a New Orleans native and retired architect who resides on the North Shore.
He says his art is driven by a long-standing appreciation of local art, culture, architecture and politics.
We believe you will find him to be a rich repository of uniquely New Orleans and Louisiana observation and commentary.
“I was moved to attempt some editorial cartoons intended to express the regional flavor and satirical spirit of The Levee,” Spicuzza said in a letter to us in May. This is the sort of inspiration for which The Levee exists.
His editorial cartoons have proven to us to contain subtleties that might be overlooked at first glance.
In other words, we believe you truly need to “read” his cartoons.
“I enjoy making the reader dig a little to appreciate every morsel of the commentary,” he said. “It’s my form of lagniappe that our wonderful city is known for.”
